Putting Stroke Fundamentals
Accumulate Putting Tips
Accumulating viable putting tips will help you to become a more confident and consistent putter of the golf ball. Developing a reliable putting stroke is one of the most enjoyable and beneficial skills to add to your golf armory. Putting practice is easy to do, fun, and will pay big dividends on your scorecard. It’s easy to take your putter and a few golf balls and get in the routine of working on your putting stroke regularly. Of course having convenient access to a local official golf putting green is nice. And the luxury of having a putting green in your yard is even nicer. But if no putting green is nearby, or you don’t have much time, you can still benefit substantially by gripping your putter properly and work on the swing motion of your putting stroke.

Two Fundamental Putting Tips
Gripping the putter with the correct tension is important since it can tighten your mobility and adjust the pace of the golf ball as it leave the putter head. If you are gripping the putter too tightly due to nervousness or pressure during your round, it will produce an atypical golf ball roll. This will affect the pace and sometimes the alignment based on how the putter head come through at impact. It is important to remember to always stay relaxed throughout the entire putting stroke. Get in the routine of gripping the club like you are gripping an egg. Not too tightly or the egg will crack, and not to softly or the egg will slip. Craft a putting grip that is firm and secure.
Learning to bring the putter head back straight, and then forward, and through straight at impact in your putting stroke is a basic putting fundamental and certainly one of the most valuable golf putting tips you’ll ever master. Actually, this is a simple putting drill and sometimes better accomplished if the golf ball, and the golf hole are not involved in your concentration pattern.
The One-Piece Takeaway
Concentration on developing and refining a one-piece takeaway is a basic aspect of a perfect putting stroke. Are your shoulders, arms and hands all moving backward and forward as one unit? They should be. Your putting stroke should resemble a pendulum motion, like the pendulum on a clock. You might even want to say to yourself, aloud or internally, “tick tock” as you make a putting stroke. Tick, is during your back swing and tock, is during your forward motion. Developing this rhythm in your putting stoke will help you to zone into each putt and maintain focused concentration throughout the stroke.
Once you have the basic putting stroke in place, one you can mechanically rely upon, putting becomes mostly all mental and feel. Golfers who are serious about reducing their golf score should be totally serious about learning to make an advantage of their scoring opportunities on the putting green.
GOLF MENTAL TRAINING
PENDULUM-LIKE PUTTING MOTION
Your arms should hang freely with no tension. Mentally make the putter an extension of your shoulders, arms and hands. A solid putting stoke involves symmetry. The golf ball is the mid-point. The putter should move back and forth in harmony, in a pendulum-like swinging motion.

Putting is a Mini Swing within a Mini Game
The putting stoke can be viewed as miniature version of the full motion golf swing. In most cases, the grip is primarily the same, and the one-piece takeaway with the shoulders, arms and hands moving together as one unit is the same. Putting is basically the golf swing shortened.
You can view putting as a mini game within your golf game. The next time you play 18 holes, make a personal goal and set the maximum number of putts you’ll settle for relative to you skill level. Let’s say a maximum of 28 putting strokes. That means you are allowed to take 2 putts on 10 greens, and the other 8 greens you must one putt. Any three putts will make your goal even more challenging. Any golf shot chip-ins and you’ll have a stroke to spare.
Viewing putting as a mini swing and mini game is fun and challenging. It helps to bring the simplicity of the sometimes seemingly difficult golf game down to size. One of the best putting tips that will benefit any golfer is the awareness that whether putting for practice, or putting for dough during a round, putting should be revered as a golfing opportunity that can make or break your golf game.
Why not practice putting on your own backyard putting green? Either real turf or artificial turf is possible.
