GOLF TERMINOLOGY beginning with the golf term BOGEY-GOLF
BOGEY GOLF - when a golfer almost consistently scores a one over par for each hole played. The score ends up approximately 90 for a par 72 golf course of 18 holes.BORROW - the measurement of putting green distance taken in feet, inches or even golf hole width, from the golf hole, to properly aim to play the line of a sloping putt accurately. BRASSIE - older traditional fairway wood with the sole plate made of brass and with a loft in between that of driver and 3 wood. BROTHER-IN-LAW ACT - in a two-ball golf event when two partners alternate excellent scores for each hole played. For example, partner A birdies the first hole, then partner B birdies the second hole, and so on.

BUNKER - considered a hazard, a pit of sand on a golf course, varies in size, shape, depth, location, and embankment type. BURIED LIE - a totally or nearly totally plugged ball; a golf shot where the ball ends up buried in sand or soft mud or grass. BUTTONHOOK - when a putted golf ball goes around the circumference edge of the cup and ends up coming back toward the golfer who putted the ball. CADDIE or CADDY - the assistant to the golfer; carries the bag of golf clubs, communicate yardage measurements, helps with golf club selection, rakes bunkers, and provides other relevant valuable tasks and information at the golfer request.   Daddy's Caddie

CARPET - refers to the putting green or the fairway. CARRY - the yardage distance the golf ball travels in the air.
CARRY THE HAZARD - a successful golf shot played over a water hazard or a bunker. CART - a riding golf cart is a small car-like vehicle golfers ride in to navigate the golf course and haul their golf clubs; a pull cart is a lightweight cart with two wheels a golfer uses to haul a set of golf clubs; both are alternatives to the golfer or caddy needing to carry the golf clubs.

CHIP IN - when a chip shot goes in the hole; holing out. CHIP-AND-RUN - a chip shot played with a golf club that has a low loft to cause the ball to roll after landing usually on the putting green. CHOKE - to become nervous while playing golf to where your affect your game in a negative way; to grip the club lower on the shaft than normal. CLUB - the instrument or tool used by a golfer to strike the golf ball. By rule a golfer is permitted to carry 14 golf clubs in his golf bag. 
CLUB HEAD - the component of the golf club that makes contact with the golf ball. All golf club heads consist of three basic parts; the face, hosel and the body. COMPRESSION - the measure of the hardness or softness and density of a golf ball. CONCEDE - a verbal declaration made to count the golf ball in the golf hole for your opponent as if he had taken the golf shot and made it. Usually declared for very short putts in match play. COUNTRY CLUB - a property for social gatherings and sports activities, usually includes a golf course.   Golf Courses

CROSS-HANDED - when putting the golf ball a right-handed golfer grips the club with the right hand above the left hand or a left-handed golfer grips the club with the left hand above the right hand. CUT SHOT - also called a slice; when a clockwise spin produces a banana shaped golf ball fight. CUT - the score in a tournament in which golfers in the field that do not that score or better are eliminated from the tournament competition. GOLF TERMINOLOGY beginning with the letter D
DEAD - when a golf ball lands and does not roll.
DEFENDER - a fun interesting golf game for a threesome where each golfer plays “defender” against the other two for every third hole. For example, if golfer A wins hole 1 he gets two points, if he loses the hole the other two golfers each get one point. Next, golfer B tries to defend hole 2. He receives two points for defending, or one point apiece goes to his opponents if he loses the hole, and so on.
DEUCE - when a golfer takes only two strokes to hit the golf ball in the hole. A birdie on a par 3. An eagle on a par 4.
DIE - when a golfer putts the golf ball and it stops rolling, usually just short of the hole.
DIVOT - piece of turf cut from the ground because of a golfer’s club head usually during an iron shot. Replace turf or fill with sand for the quickest recovery of the ground.
DOGLEG - a fairway that has a turn either way from tee to putting green. Fairway is shaped like a dog’s leg.
DORMIE - in match play, the match is dormie when the number of holes a golfer is winning by is equal to the number of holes yet to be played.
