Practice the Proper Swing Rhythm

One of the golf mental tips to ensure a better scoring afternoon on the golf course is to get your body into the correct rhythm beforehand. To do that, a helpful golf tip is to start practicing the correct golf swing rhythm before you even get to the golf course.

Most golfers struggle with their timing during the golf stroke. Frequently, the issue is that they rush the golf stroke. Whether it is excitement caused by finally getting to play, or nerves caused by a big match, or just the eagerness to take advantage of a great tee shot and bust that wedge right onto the putting green, the temptation is to go out there and give it 110% on every golf shot. And as every good mathematician knows, it’s that extra 10% that gets you in trouble.

If that caused you to ruefully nod your head in agreement, here is something you can try. From the moment you get up in the morning of your next golf game until you place the golf ball on the tee for that first golf shot, mentally focus on moving a little slower than you normally would. Don’t rush your way through breakfast in order to have that extra a half an hour on the putting green. Chew that piece of toast slowly, savor every sip of coffee, and place your golf clubs carefully into your car trunk rather than throwing them in there like they were some random gear from the hardware store.

To augment this approach, practice some meditation techniques such as deep breathing. Breathe in, hold it for a count of five, and breathe out. In summary, practice mentally focusing on the moment, rather than on the round that lies ahead.

The golf mental tip is to get the brain conditioned to slow down before your golf round starts. That will help to overcome the natural urge to over-accelerate, and maintain the proper rhythm of your golf stroke. By mentally training your brain to slow down, you’ll be able to stick to the pace that you likely exhibit on the practice range, staying relaxed and in the present to ensure that over-excitement and a rapid heartbeat doesn’t torpedo your round.
