Improve Golf Game Tips

The Superior Golf Game
of Discipline and Routine

A superior golf game is one of discipline where if you develop a routine that works you, you can replicate that routine for every shot to become more consistent. Achieving consistency will take discipline on two counts;

  • discipline to develop the routine that works for you,
  • and discipline to stick to it, with confidence, for every golf shot situation.

For example, every golfer should have a routine that is used to prepare them for their best golf shot. Visualization is the ability to internally view, along with externally view, the ideal golf shot for a given situation. Seeing the shot happen before you execute it allows you to become comfortable and mentally vested in the shot, and will enable you to perform your best golf shot.

Start from the Tee and Execute your Routine...
All the Way to the Hole

As you approach your golf ball on the golf course analyze the situation as a whole. For example, if you just hit a ball off the tee on a par 4, as you approach your golf ball take notice of where your ball is.
Is it in the rough or fairway?

How is the golf ball lie?

Are there trees, water, or sand to consider?

What about the wind where you are standing? Throw some grass up in the air and watch which way it goes and how fast. Check the treetops between you and the flagstick. Which way are the treetops bending? Look at the flagstick flag. Which way is the flag blowing?

Observing the indicators above will help you process your best flight path for your golf shot.

Check the yardage to the hole. And check the yardage to the front and back of the putting green. You might also want to consider the green’s distance left and right of the pin depending on where the flagstick is.

Stand behind your golf ball and visualize your best golf shot.

When making your club selection, factor in all the information you’ve acquired and turn it into knowledge for hitting your best golf shot.
Stand over the ball and take a practice swing or two for visualization refinement and comfort.

Then hit your best golf shot!

This routine, from approaching your golf ball, to hitting your golf ball, should take approximately 1 minute.

To refine and become comfortable with your routine, discipline yourself to execute your routine for every golf shot in your golf game.

GOLF TIPS TRAINING

IMPROVING YOUR
GOLF SHOTS

For improving your golf shots, discipline yourself to practice and refine your routine at the driving range playing shots that could occur during a golf game. Then when you are able to play a golf course it is simply a matter of discipline to execute your ingrained routine for each shot.

GOLF MENTAL TRAINING

PUTTING FOR BIRDIE FROM 10 FEET

On your approach shots to the putting green, using your 9-iron and longer clubs, always look to play a fade or draw shot onto the putting green depending upon which golf shot is more comfortable for you.

If you are a right-handed golfer and you typically draw the ball, aim the shot 10 feet right of the hole and let your draw golf swing take the golf ball to the pin. If you miss hit your draw and it goes straight your golf ball will end up 10 feet right of the hole. If you over draw your golf shot, missing it by 20 feet, your golf ball will end up 10 feet left of the hole. If you hit your ideal draw shot your golf ball will be near at the flagstick or in the hole.

This approach mentality sets you up for a worse case scenario of putting for birdie from 10 feet as shown in the picture above.

However, if you play a straight golf shot and miss hit it by 20 feet, which was the same distance missed in the case of the over drawn shot, you now have set yourself up for a 20 foot birdie attempt. The same holds true for a fade approach shot.

Since putting is nearly half the strokes in a golf game, this golf tip could lower your score by 5, 10 or more strokes per round.
