Golf Driver Swing Tip

Drive for Show

Pick the Right Driver

Here is a good golf driver swing tip. It may be superficial. It may count the same as every other stroke, even the dinky wedges. But let’s be honest … most of us get a bigger charge out of an impressive drive than anything else we hit on the golf course. Especially off the first tee, with the starter and others milling about to watch, smashing the ball down the fairway can be a huge ego boost to start the round.

To be strong off the tee, it’s important to pick the right driver, which for many involves taking advantage of the new innovations in club design. Oversized drivers (clubheads at 460cc) are more popular than ever, and for those who struggle with their drives can be a huge asset. It’s easy to get the ball off the tee with a driver that big (though hitting it accurately is another story).

When using an oversized driver, you’ll want to use a larger tee to match. With a traditional driver, you want the top half of the ball visible over the clubhead, but the bigger clubheads require a higher start. With the bigger drivers, three-quarters of the ball should be visible over the top of the clubhead at rest.

Golf Ball Placement

Move the ball forward in your stance, even with your left foot or perhaps even in front of it if you are a right-handed golfer. That is to encourage making contact on the upswing, which helps get the golf ball soaring airborne. Then, as you get set up, place your clubhead against the ball so that the ball and the sweet spot line up. That’s where you want to make contact for maximum results. That preparation, done before the first practice swing even takes place, gets you set up for success. It ensures that you’ll hit the golf ball as the club manufacturers intended, and from that point the newer sticks will do the work of shooting the ball down the fairway for you.

Once you’re ready to go, stand back from the ball – which should come naturally, given the longer shaft that most drivers have. Take a wide arc to the ball, keep your head down, and follow through.
